Master/Leader: Mikiko Yamanashi - Profile
Mikiko Yamanashi, director of Yamanshi Hemslöjd, enthusiastically introduces Scandinavian and British handicrafts such as embroidery and weaving to Japan, and has frequently exhibited her work in solo exhibitions. She is active on the front lines, holding "Hemslöjd Exhibitions" at department stores every year, and also engaging in workshops, publishing, production, and shop management.
Profile
1967 Graduated from the Department of French Literature at Tokyo Metropolitan University
In 1967, he moved to Sweden to study Swedish textiles.
1970: Held a Swedish weaving (Flemish weaving) class under the auspices of the Swedish National Association for Handicraft.
In 1971, he became an associate of the Swedish National Association of Homecraft and established the Swedish Textile Institute. In the same year, he held an exhibition at the Matsuya Department Store in Ginza. Subsequently, he opened Yamanashi Hemslöjd shops at the Swedish Center in Roppongi and Tokyu Department Store in Shibuya.
Became the Danish Crafts Guild's representative in Japan in 1976.
1978 Established Yamanashi Hemslöjd Building, which includes an atelier, in Meguro Kakinokizaka.
1983: Held a solo exhibition at Ginza Wako and the "Swedish Traditional Crafts Exhibition" at Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C., among others.
1984: Held the "British Royal School Traditional Embroidery Exhibition" at Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C. Became the Japanese representative for the British Royal School.
1985: Awarded the Order of the Polar Star, First Class, by the King of Sweden.
1986: The "Swedish Lace Art Exhibition" was held at Wako in Ginza.
1988 London Office Opens
1990: The "William Morris and His Circle" exhibition was held at Tokyu Department Store Main Store and Umeda Hankyu.
1991 Solo exhibition at the Smith Gallery, London.
In 1992, the "300 Years of European Embroidery" exhibition was held at the Shibuya Tokyu Main Store and the Osaka Umeda Hankyu.
1997: "Danish Flower Embroidery Exhibition" held at Shibuya Tokyu Department Store and Kobe Hankyu Museum.
1997 Moved headquarters to Jingumae, Shibuya-ku.
In 1998, the "Victorian Floral Embroidery Exhibition" was held at the Shibuya Tokyu Main Store.
1999 Garden Embroidery Exhibition held at Shibuya Tokyu Department Store Main Store.
In 2000, a retrospective exhibition of Gerda Bengtsson was held in the Great Hall of Copenhagen City Hall.
2001: The "Danish Wildflower Embroidery Exhibition" and the "Georg Jensen Exhibition" were held concurrently at Shibuya Tokyu Department Store Main Branch.
Ms. Lisbeth Jansen, President of the Danish Handicraft Guild, visits Japan. "Danish Wildflower Embroidery Exhibition" held at Kagoshima City Museum of Art, and "Gerda Bengtsson Retrospective Exhibition" held at Okayama Takashimaya. Opened the "Handicraft Gallery" in Copenhagen.
2002 Exhibition commemorating the publication of *Nordic Handmade Notebooks* at the Shibuya Tokyu Main Store
and held a solo exhibition, "Mikiko Yamanashi: Embroidery and Weaving Lifestyle Exhibition."
2003: Held the "World of Danish Embroidery Exhibition" at Shibuya Tokyu Main Store. 11 embroidery works by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe were exhibited.
2004 Yamanashi Mikiko's Craft Gallery opens at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. Simultaneously, a book launch exhibition for "Handwoven with Wooden Frames" is held. Book launch exhibitions for "Colorful Borders" are held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Yokohama Takashimaya. Ms. Vibeke Olrik visits Japan.
2008: The "Ultimate Embroidery Exhibition" was held at Shibuya Tokyu Department Store. Ms. Heidi Jenkin visited Japan.
2008: Exhibition held at Shibuya Tokyu Main Store to commemorate the publication of "Danish Cross-Stitch by Ingrid Plum."
2009 "Nordic Simple Embroidery" (Grahsha), "Swedish Cross-Stitch Christmas Tapestry" published
2010 Published "Merry Christmas," "Four Seasons of Life and Window Flowers," and "Streetscapes and Window Sketches" from "Danish Cross-Stitch."
2011: Held 40th anniversary exhibition.
