Large Swedish weave course

Since its establishment in 1971 as the predecessor, the Swedish Textile Research Institute, by Mikiko Yamanashi, the Swedish weaving course has consistently continued with the theme of ”enriching life.” From April 2023, we have relocated our classes to the archive studio in Denenchofu (currently under preparation) and established a new course open to everyone, so that each person can experience the warmth of handmade at home.


Beginners' class

Experience in all processes from design, yarn calculations, warping, loom setup, weaving, to finishing.

Yes, I can. I will complete four works in half a year.

Number of players: 2-4

Registration fee: ¥22,000 (first time only; not required for those already attending other main branch classes)

Attendance Fee: ¥187,000 (including tax, excluding materials)

  3. Swedish wool yarn scarf 30cm x 100cm
  4. Swedish wool yarn mat 50cm x 100cm

Advanced class

This class is primarily for those with weaving experience. You can choose your preferred project.

I will participate in all proceedings and respond to your requests.

You can join from your favourite work.

Participation Fee: ¥33,000 per entry (tax included, materials cost separate)

One-month private hire course (coming soon)

You can have exclusive use of one loom.

Participation fee: ¥44,000 (incl. tax, materials cost extra)

Class weaving on a 300-year-old loom (coming soon)

Participation fee: 22,000 yen (including tax, material fee not included)

We weave items, mainly shawls, on a rare 300-year-old loom.


Workshop

Workshop to create items (mats, kitchen cloths, etc.) that can be woven in 1-2 days

We will announce details of the event on our website, Instagram, and Facebook.

*All participants will be required to cover the cost of materials (actual expenses). Equipment will be provided on loan.
